Fresh Inquest for Seamus Ludlow, Dundalk, 5 September 2005:

CELTIC LEAGUE - PRESS INFORMATION

NEW INQUEST INTO LUDLOW MURDER OPENS

Due to their perseverance the family of Seamus Ludlow have achieved
a second inquest into his controversial murder 1976.

The Celtic League were amongst a number of organisations and individuals
who have supported the families campaign over several years (see below)
corresponding with members of the Irish government, including the
Taoiseach and Justice Ministry, and also with the police service in
the north.

The second inquest into the circumstances surrounding the murder of
a 47-year-old Co. Louth forestry worker opened in Dundalk today.

Seamus Ludlow was on his way home on the night of 2 May 1976 when
he was apparently selected at random by members of a loyalist paramilitary
gang and shot    several times. His body was dumped in a lane near
his home.

It is contended that this murder and others conducted in border areas
by such gangs, which allegedly included members of the now discredited
Ulster Defence Regiment, were known of and tacitly countenanced by
British intelligence who were operating the 'counter-gang' theory
- at that time taught in British military staff colleges.

What has made the anguish of the Ludlow family more poignant is the
suspicion that police forces and governments both in Britain and Ireland
have colluded in the subsequent cover-up.

It is hoped that the new inquest will unravel some of the mystery
which still surrounds this tragic episode from almost two decades
ago.
